E32 - You Can Afford It… But What Is It Costing You Later? The Most Expensive Money Question You’re Not Asking

Have you ever gone to book a trip, you’re about to click “confirm”—and you pause for a second?

You know you can afford it, but something in the back of your mind is like...

“Should I really be doing this?”
“Is this irresponsible?”
“Am I low-key messing up my future?”

That hesitation & low-level anxiety isn't a spending problem.
That’s a clarity problem.

And if you’re a high-achieving woman who’s already investing—but still doesn’t fully understand your portfolio—this is exactly where it shows up in your life.

The Real Reason You Don’t Feel Confident With Money

On paper? You’re doing everything right.

But in real life? You still hesitate.

  • When you want to take time off

  • When you think about switching jobs

  • When you consider upgrading your lifestyle

  • When you wonder if you could actually slow down someday

Because no one ever taught you how to connect your investments to your actual life.

Like…
What does your money actually mean for your future?

When can you relax?
When can you spend more?
When can you step back?

No one teaches this. So instead you’re left making decisions based on vibes instead of data.

And let me be clear—I love a good vibe.

But when it comes to your financial freedom?
We need more than that.

You’re Already Making Massive Trade-Offs (You Just Don’t See Them)

This is the part that changes everything.

You’re already making huge life trade-offs with your money, you just don’t realize it.

We’re so used to thinking about small trade-offs:

  • Skip the latte

  • Bring lunch

  • Book the cheaper flight

But those are micro decisions.

What really matters? They’re bigger and quieter.

Like:

  • Choosing the bigger house

  • Upgrading the car

  • Saying yes to a high-paying job you don’t love

  • Spending more without knowing what it impacts down the line

Those decisions don’t just cost money.

They cost options.

They might be costing you:

  • Time off with your future kids

  • The ability to walk away from a stressful job

  • Starting a business

  • Retiring earlier

  • Having flexibility later

And the wild part?

You could be saying no to all of that… without even realizing it.

Changing How You See Money

Let me give you the metaphor that will click everything into place.

Most people are focused on:

✨ Window seat or aisle
✨ Extra legroom
✨ Snacks on the plane

But they don’t even know where the plane is going.

That’s what most women are doing with money.

Your spending = the flight experience
Your investments = the destination

And right now?

You’re optimizing the experience…
Without knowing the destination.

So of course you feel anxious.

Because the real question isn’t: “Can I afford this right now?”

The real question is: “What is this choice costing me in my future?”

You Can Have an Incredible Life Now and Build Wealth

Let’s clear something up.

You don’t need to choose between:

  • Enjoying your life now

  • Building wealth for later

You can absolutely have both.

But you cannot do it blindly.

The truth is:

You can have anything… just not everything.

And when you don’t decide what your “anything” is?

Your money decides for you.

My Turning Point (And Why This Matters So Much)

When I first started working, I had the classic setup:

  • Corporate job

  • Limited vacation PTO

  • “Live bigger someday, after I've earned it” energy

And I was like… absolutely not.

So I did what a lot of ambitious women do:

I optimized.

I saved.
I invested.
I even went freelance for the flexibility.

And technically?

I got what I wanted.

More time. More freedom.

But then came the next question:

“How much time can I actually take off without screwing up my future?”

That question haunted me for a while, until I realized:

It’s not about guessing. It’s about knowing.

Once I started understanding what my investments were doing—and what they were projected to become—everything changed.

I stopped asking:

“Can I do this?”

And started saying:

“Oh… hell yes. I’m doing this.”

The Shift: From Guessing to Knowing

Here’s the shift:

From:
“I hope I’m doing this right”

To:
“I know exactly what this decision means”

When you understand your numbers, everything becomes clearer.

You can:

  • Take time off without guilt

  • Spend money without second-guessing

  • Make career moves without fear

  • Build wealth with intention

You stop overthinking every decision, and you stop feeling like your money is running the show.

When you’re clear on your investments and your trajectory:

You can say:

✔ “Yes, I’m taking this trip, without sacrificing my future.”
✔ “Yes, I’m stepping back from work for a year —and I know exactly what it means long-term.”
✔ “Yes, I’m upgrading my lifestyle… and I’m still on track.”
✔ “Yes, I’m choosing time now over retiring earlier—and I’m okay with that.”

Because every “yes” comes with an intentional no.

Not an accidental one.

The Problem Most Women Have With Investing

If you’ve ever tried to “learn investing” in general…

You already know. It’s overwhelming.

Stocks, ETFs, asset allocation, fees…

It feels like a never-ending rabbit hole.

The thing is, that approach is totally backwards.

Because the goal isn’t to understand everything about investing.

The goal is to understand:

What your investments are doing for your life

Once you feel clear on your goals, you can focus on learning what matters to make them possible.

And suddenly…

Investing stops feeling daunting and starts feeling simple.

The Most Powerful Place to Start

If you want to take control of your money and build real financial independence, start here:

Look at what you already have.

Then ask:

  • What is this projected to grow into?

  • When will I hit my goals?

  • Am I on track for the life I actually want?

Once you know where your “plane” is going, everything else becomes easier.

You’ve worked way too hard to:

  • Make good money

  • Save consistently

  • Invest diligently

Just to still feel unsure.

You’re just missing the piece that connects it all together.
